- Q: What is an Interactive White Board?
- A: Many people have heard of Interactive White Boards by their brand names. Some common brand names are SMART and Promethean. These boards function much like a computer desktop, enabling students and teachers to manipulate it with an electronic pointer. Sound, graphics, video, and interaction are key components of Interactive White Boards.
- Q: What is a Voter Response System?
- A: A Voter Response System works with an Interactive White Board to enable students to use a handheld wireless device (much like a cell phone) and select or text in answers to prompts. This engages the student and provides feedback to the student and teacher during the lesson. Instruction can be altered immediately to meet the needs of the student. Many students fondly refer to them as clickers or voters.
- Q: To whom do I make a check payable?
- A: Checks are made payable to the Lamar County Educational Foundation. Please designate CREATE in the memo line. Mail to CREATE at P. O. Box 18950, Hattiesburg, MS 39404-8590.
- Q: What is the Lamar County Educational Foundation?
- A: It serves as a liaison between all of Lamar County School District’s schools and the community in order to advance academic performance. The foundation is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. This enables donations to be tax deductible.
- Q: Didn’t CISCO provide a grant for Interactive White
Boards?
- A: Just over 200 Lamar County classrooms are equipped with this highly engaging technology as a result of a three-year grant from the Cisco Corporation. The addition of this technology has truly opened many awesome doors for students and teachers. The district wants to maintain and continue to grow in this area, so that hundreds of additional classrooms can receive this beneficial technology.
- Q: Has all of the CISCO grant money been expended?
- A: Yes, all CISCO grant funding has been used. Therefore, additional equipment must be purchased by the school district.
- Q: Are donations tax deductible?
- A: Donations are made through the Lamar County Educational Foundation, which is a 501 (C)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible.
